FAQs

What types of printing do you do?

Our primary service is Screen Printing, where each design requires film, screens and time to set up each print, ready for production.

Screen Printing is the best method for print runs of 12 or more shirts, as at this point the process becomes more economical. For smaller orders, or one-offs we would recommend a company that offers Digital Printing.

Screen Printing is the best method of printing for quality clothing labels or uniforms, as this process produces the most durable printing result.

Can I supply my own garments, or do you supply them?

Yes you can supply your own garments, or we can source them for you through one of our trusted suppliers.

If you supply your own garments, please specify the material they are made of as some materials, polyester for example, are not completely colour fast so require a specific type of ink, to ensure the best print result.

How much does it cost?

The cost of Screen Printing will depend on the size and number of prints, the number of colours in your design and of course how many garments you want printed.
The cost is broken down into set up cost per screen, then a cost per print/garment. As long the print design remains the same, the cost per shirt reduces, the more you do.

How long does it take to get printing done?

Most jobs can be turned around within a week of confirmation of quote and receipt of artwork and garments (if being supplied).
That said, if you have a specific deadline let us know and we’ll do our best to make it happen!
If we are supplying garments, we ask for a 50% deposit upfront, as these are often ordered in, specifically for you.

I paid for screen set up, does that mean I own the screens?

No, you have paid for the time and materials to create the screens and the use of the screens only. When your job is complete the screens are reclaimed to be used for other jobs.
If you intend to do further runs of the same design in future, have a chat with Dave as we may be able to hold these for you, to save costs on future runs.

What materials can you print on?

Screen Printing requires the garment or material to undergo a high heat for a short period of time to ensure the ink is cured for long lasting durability.  This is fine for tee shirts, hoodies and most sports tops and high-vis vests, as a variety of inks with variable curing temperatures can be used for the best result.
For garments with an uneven surface e.g. polar fleece, or garments with a high level of polyester, we may recommend a different printing method.

Sustainability

Making eco-friendly choices

We are a Kiwi owned and operated company who care about our environment. We make eco-friendly choices with our processes and the products we use where possible, so as still to achieve a high-quality vibrant and long lasting print for our clients.

We use Sgreen® Eco-Friendlierâ„¢ products, formulated with citrus and iodine, these green screen chemicals break the norm, performing better than other harmful chemicals while going easy on the environment.

Primarily we use plastisol ink, which remains the long-time industry standard due to its superior colour accuracy, vibrancy and versatility. Plastisol is considered a 100% solid, so every bit of it stays on the fabric when cured. Unlike other inks, it doesn't dry out, hence less wastage and water required to clean back screens. We take active steps to minimise waste, dispose of it responsibly, and reduce, reuse and recycle where we can – any soft plastic packaging is recycled and we use either cardboard or brown paper for out-going packaging.

Are water-based inks better for the environment?

While water-based inks are PVC-free, they do contain some plastic in the form of acrylics and other binders.  The primary solvent is water, but they often contain co-solvents such as formaldehyde and alcohol.

Whilst water-based inks can achieve a softer and more lightweight feel, colours tend to be less vibrant, so it really depends on the result you want.

Each ink has a different environmental footprint so, as always, we encourage you to have a chat about what you are trying to achieve with your printing, and we are more than happy to provide advice on the best method for you.
